Travel from Cusco through beautiful Andean landscapes to Cusipata, enjoy breakfast before the hike, and continue toward the trailhead. From there, hike through a remarkable high-altitude environment until reaching Rainbow Mountain at approximately 16,522 ft (5,036 m).

Journey from Cusco to the Andes

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. As we travel south, the city gradually gives way to valleys, traditional communities and impressive mountain scenery.

We stop in Cusipata for breakfast before continuing toward the starting point of the hike. Your guide will provide information about the route and help you prepare for the high-altitude trek ahead.

Hiking to Rainbow Mountain

The hike takes you through a striking Andean landscape surrounded by mountains and wide open valleys. Because of the altitude, we maintain a comfortable pace and allow time to rest along the route.

Travelers who prefer additional assistance may rent a horse locally for part of the route. Horse rental is optional and is paid directly on-site.

Rainbow Mountain Viewpoint

Reaching Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) is the highlight of the journey. At approximately 16,522 ft (5,036 m), you will have time to admire the colorful geological formations, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Andes and capture unforgettable photographs.

Your guide will explain the natural characteristics of the mountain and the importance of this remarkable landscape to the local communities of the region.

Optional Red Valley

Depending on conditions and available time, travelers may have the opportunity to visit the Red Valley as an optional extension. Its intense red landscapes offer a striking contrast to Rainbow Mountain. The entrance to the Red Valley is not included in the tour price and must be paid separately.

Lunch and Return to Cusco

After enjoying the mountain, we begin our descent and return to Cusipata for a buffet lunch. Afterwards, we travel back through the Andes toward Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
