Sacred Valley + Machu Picchu: 2 Days / 1 Night by Train
Tour Overview
Two Days. One Journey Through the Heart of the Andes.
Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour is a two-day journey that combines the cultural landscapes of the Sacred Valley with one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations: Machu Picchu. Rather than traveling directly to the Inca citadel, this carefully planned route allows you to discover remarkable places along the way before continuing by train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo.
Starting early from Cusco, the first day takes you through traditional Andean communities, impressive archaeological sites and spectacular mountain scenery. The journey continues through the Sacred Valley toward Ollantaytambo, where you board the train for the next stage of your adventure.
Discover Chinchero, Maras and Moray
Your Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour begins at approximately 7:00 AM with departure from Cusco toward Chinchero, a traditional Andean town surrounded by beautiful highland landscapes and deeply connected to the cultural heritage of the region.
The route then continues toward Maras and Moray. Moray is famous for its remarkable circular agricultural terraces, one of the most distinctive archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. Nearby, the journey continues to the Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt pools form a unique landscape along the mountainside.
Lunch in Urubamba and Journey to Ollantaytambo
After exploring the morning attractions, the journey descends into the Sacred Valley toward Urubamba, where you will enjoy a buffet lunch before continuing to Ollantaytambo.
Surrounded by mountains and impressive Inca architecture, Ollantaytambo is the final destination of the Sacred Valley portion of the journey. It is also home to the train station that connects the valley with Machu Picchu Pueblo, making it the perfect transition point between your Sacred Valley experience and the journey toward Machu Picchu.
By Train Toward Machu Picchu
From Ollantaytambo, board the train and travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Andes toward Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes. The railway follows the Urubamba River as the high Andean scenery gradually transforms into the lush environment surrounding Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival, you will spend the night in Machu Picchu Pueblo, preparing for the highlight of your journey the following day.
The Journey Leads to Machu Picchu
On the second day, the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour continues with your visit to Machu Picchu. Surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and centuries of history, you will explore the legendary Inca citadel with a professional guide who will introduce you to its architecture, history and significance within the Inca civilization.
Walking through its ancient pathways, agricultural terraces and stone structures is the culmination of a journey that began among the communities and landscapes of the Sacred Valley and gradually brought you closer to one of the most remarkable archaeological destinations in the world.
Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour by Train
Our Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour combines two unforgettable experiences in a carefully coordinated two-day itinerary. Instead of losing a day traveling directly between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the route transforms the journey itself into part of the experience.
From Chinchero, Maras and Moray to the remarkable salt pools of Maras, the fertile valley of Urubamba and the historic town of Ollantaytambo, each stop brings you closer to Machu Picchu while revealing a different side of the Andes.
Why Choose a Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour?
This journey is ideal for travelers who want to make the most of their time in Cusco while experiencing much more than Machu Picchu alone. By combining the Sacred Valley route with the train connection from Ollantaytambo, you can explore important cultural and archaeological attractions on the way to Machu Picchu instead of treating the journey as simple transportation.
With transportation, sightseeing, buffet lunch in Urubamba, the train journey and the guided Machu Picchu experience organized within the same itinerary, the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu Tour offers a practical and memorable way to discover two of the most important destinations in the Cusco region.
At Forever Peru Travel, we believe Peru should not simply be visited — it should be felt. Every road through the Andes has a story, and every journey has the potential to become a memory that lasts forever.
